9:00am - 12:00pm
The Water and Energy Nexus (Part One)
Hosted by the Alliance to Save Energy
Learn how water and energy are inextricably linked, and about the opportunities across industries for simultaneously increasing water and energy efficiency. See confirmed speakers.
Mainstreaming Energy Efficiency into Scaling Up Electricity Access in the Developing World: Smarter Strategies, Solutions and Models
Hosted by The World Bank
The objective of the workshop is to examine the feasibility, costs and benefits of mainstreaming demand side energy efficiency with energy access initiatives through increased private sector participation. It will focus on operationalization of alternative delivery models that could further the goal of providing affordable and low-carbon energy access in low income countries, particularly in Africa and South Asia, and be commercially feasible and financially and economically attractive to utilities, service providers and customers. See Agenda and Additional Information.
Sustainable Urban Habitats
Hosted by IPEEC
According to the United Nations, cities contribute to 70% of global greenhouse-gas emissions. Improving energy efficiency in urban habitats has become a top priority: solutions include building codes, intelligent tropical architecture, zero energy buildings, and deep renovation of existing buildings. Promoting sustainable urban habitats implies, among other challenges, developing new technologies, involving and coordinating the actions of numerous actors and identifying financing methods. This workshop will focus on enhanced policies to promote energy efficient buildings. It will also present case studies from all around the world. See Agenda.
12:30pm – 3:30 pm
Strategies to Improve Water and Energy Efficiency (Part Two)
Hosted by the Alliance to Save Energy
Hear from a variety of experts about specific actions that have been taken to improve water and energy efficiency, and about financing mechanisms and technologies to generate additional gains in both water and energy efficiency. See confirmed speakers.
Local Strategies for EE Programs in the Southeast of the United States
Hosted by the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Neighborhood Program is helping selected state and local governments develop sustainable programs to upgrade the energy efficiency of existing buildings. These leading communities are using innovation and investment in energy efficiency to expand the building improvement industry, test program delivery business models, and create jobs. The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA) is overseeing 16 community based programs in eight states in the Southeastern United States and one U.S. Territory. These panels will feature representatives from these programs discussing the unique opportunities and challenges associated with trying to launch market-driven building retrofit programs in the Southern United States.
Industrial Energy Efficiency and Energy Management Systems (EMS)
Hosted by IPEEC
Heavy industries that are also energy intensive offer increasing opportunities to improve the overall energy efficiency in an economy: materials such as cement, steel and aluminum are widely used in appliances, buildings, vehicles, etc. These industries are growing fast in countries such as China and India. Improving industrial energy efficiency in industry requires targeted policies and measures to improve productivity for companies while promoting energy savings. This workshop will discuss policies and instruments to promote EMS implementation that can generate energy savings across multiple sectors. It will also present case studies from all around the world. See Agenda.
