Nawal Al-Hosany

Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany is the Director of Sustainability at Masdar. In this role she leads a team responsible for developing Masdar's sustainability standards & policies and sustainability auditing, monitoring and reporting. Additionally, Dr. Al-Hosany is in charge of liaising with government authorities, schools and universities to drive the sustainability agenda in the UAE. A widely published international journalist, Dr. Al-Hosany is cited as one of the 40 most influential persons helping to shape the Emirate. In 2011, Dr Al-Hosany was appointed Sherpa to the UN Secretary General High Level Group for "The Sustainable Energy For all" initiative to support the appointed Principle, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar. Prior to assuming her current roles, Dr Al-Hosany held senior leadership positions with the General Headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Police, and became the first-ever female Deputy Director in the Abu Dhabi Police. She graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the UAE University and obtained her PhD from Newcastle University in the UK.

Kateri Callahan brings more than 20 years of experience in policy advocacy, fundraising, coalition building, and organizational management to her position as the president of the Alliance to Save Energy, a non-government organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to advance energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security. Serving as president of the Alliance since January 2004, Callahan works with the Alliance Board of Directors, which includes Members of Congress, state and local officials and top corporate and NGO executives, to establish and oversee the core objectives and strategic plans for the organization. Callahan serves as the principal spokesperson for the Alliance, appearing regularly before the Congress and the media, and addressing conferences and gatherings around the world. She is a trusted source for credible information on energy efficiency and its role in addressing the environmental, economic and national security issues associated with the use of energy.

With over 28 years of professional work experience in energy technology, aerospace/defense, industrial, machine tool, and consumer markets, Ervin Cash has had assignments in strategic planning, general management, lobbying, market and channel development, global sales and marketing, business unit management, plant management, engineering and quality assurance. Before joining Bosch, Ervin served as Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing and Product Management at Rinnai Corporation and as Executive Vice President of Rinnai North America, where he worked extensively at the federal level in the creation of tax credits and the DOE Energy Star program for water heaters. Ervin holds three degrees: MBA from Xavier University; B.S. from the University of Kansas in Mechanical Engineering; B.A. from Mid-America Nazarene College in Communications and Human Relations, along with post-graduate studies at Harvard Business School's Executive Education Program in Strategy, Marketing and Sustaining Competitive Advantage.

 

Bob Dixon

Bob Dixon has over 36 years of experience in building systems, facility operations, energy conservation and management. In his current position, he is responsible for advising government and business leaders around the world on global initiatives for building efficiency and sustainability, enabling the reduction of carbon emissions and energy consumption, and conserving natural resources. In addition, Bob is responsible for assessing the strategic implications of efficiency and sustainability global trends and opportunities, including identification and evaluation of partnership opportunities and sourced technologies, enhancing efficiency and sustainability strategies. He is the first designated Senior Principle Expert for the 39,000 employee Building Technologies Division. Bob earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, and is a graduate of the Minnesota Executive Program at the University of Minnesota.

 

Jeff Drees

In 2010, Jeff was named U.S. Country President, assuming responsibility for growth and profitability of the Power, Buildings and Energy businesses in the United States, along with driving energy efficiency and solutions initiatives across the North American territory. Jeff joined Schneider Electric in 2001, serving most recently as President of the Buildings Business in the Americas and Executive Vice President of Buildings Business Global. During his tenure, he has held several positions including Vice President of Sales for the Energy Solutions Business, Vice President of Systems Integration, Vice President of the Partners division, and Vice President of International Business. Prior to joining Schneider Electric, he held management and engineering positions at Caterpillar Inc., Honeywell Inc. and served in the U.S. Air Force. Jeff has a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and a master's degree from Aurora University.

 

Thomas K. Dreessen

Mr. Dreessen is a global expert in developing, financing and managing the performance of savings-based energy efficiency (EEPs) within existing industrial process and large commercial/institutional facilities. His specialized expertise to structure/arrange local debt and equity financing of EEPs in developing markets stems from his 30+ years of experience successfully developing or financing EEPs in over 24 countries with ESCOs he formed and owned in 10 different countries.

He is currently creating new commercially-attractive mechanisms to aggregate the development and funding of EEPs and result in lower transaction costs, reduced risk and increased investor returns. These include the development of project-based lending products that include a guarantee of energy efficiency savings and expanded credit risk applications in China and in Indonesia.

He serves on the Alliance to Save Energy and the Efficiency Valuation Organization Boards, is a CPA and holds a BBA in Accounting and a MBA from Lamar University.

The BNMC is dedicated to the cultivation of a world-class medical campus for clinical care, research, education, and entrepreneurship. Through Matt's efforts, local neighborhood leaders, foundations, multi-national corporations, NGOs, research labs, hospitals and educational institutions are collaborating to create a model for reenergizing the city that has application all over America. Previously, Matt worked in the entertainment industry for Broadway Pictures and with Lorne Michaels at Saturday Night Live. Matt holds a B.A. in English from Hobart College and a Master of Business Administration from Canisius College.

Libby Ferguson is responsible for co-ordinating the Victorian Government’s relations with local, state and federal government agencies in North America, with a view to supporting bi-lateral trade, investment and knowledge sharing. She is based in the Victorian Government Business Office (VGBO) New York. Libby joined the Victorian Government’s Americas team from the Local Government Association of England & Wales, where as Partnership Manager for International Development, she established a program to promote international capacity building projects. Prior to this, Libby worked for several years with the Victorian Government in Melbourne, Australia and London, UK promoting trade and investment between Europe and Australia. She was formerly a Project Manager at Aston Business School, Birmingham UK and has worked and studied in Germany, Canada and China. Libby holds a Bachelor of Science (International Business and Foreign Languages) from Aston University, UK.

 

Christian Gianni

Christian Gianni is responsible for leading the 4,300 men and women who develop current and next-generation products at 22 Technology Centers across North America, Latin America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Before joining Whirlpool, Mr. Gianni led global product development as the Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering, for Fisher & Paykel, a major appliance manufacturer in New Zealand. During his 24 years in the global appliance industry, Mr. Gianni has held numerous positions in both product-design and operations organizations, and has been instrumental in driving quality and product innovation. Mr. Gianni has identified organizational culture as a key enabler of change, and is focusing on it as a way to foster creativity and productivity, both of which are essential to Whirlpool in its position as the number one appliance manufacturer in the world. Mr. Gianni is an honors graduate from the University Auckland in New Zealand and holds a degree in Engineering.

 

S. Vijay Iyer

S. Vijay Iyer is Director of the World Bank's Sustainable Energy Department, where he guides the Bank's policies, programs and strategies in the energy sector. Until June 2011, he was Manager of the Bank's Africa Energy Group, where he led initiatives for sub-Saharan African countries to support energy access through investments in hydropower, geothermal and electrification projects, as well as innovative programs such as Lighting Africa. An Indian national, Mr. Iyer has worked in private industry, project finance and banking. He has also been a senior official with the Indian Civil Service, holding several positions in public administration and economic development. He holds a MBA from Yale University and a Master's in Chemistry from Jabalpur University in India.

 

Richard Jones

Richard H. Jones became Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency in October 2008. Ambassador Jones, a former American diplomat, served as the American Ambassador to Israel (2005-2008), Kuwait (2001-2004), Kazakhstan (1998-2001) and Lebanon (1996-1998). During these and earlier assignments he gained considerable experience in oil and gas as well as other energy, economic and environmental issues. Ambassador Jones has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College, and an MS and PhD in Business/Statistics from the University of Wisconsin.

 

Ray Mabus

Ray Mabus is the 75th United States Secretary of the Navy and leads America's Navy and Marine Corps. As Secretary of the Navy, Mabus is responsible for an annual budget of $160 billion and the leadership of almost 900,000 people. Upon assumption of office, Secretary Mabus has worked to change how the Navy and Marine Corps use, produce and acquire energy, setting aggressive goals that will move the Navy and Marine Corps to use at least 50% alternative energy no later than 2020. In June 2010 President Obama appointed Secretary Mabus to prepare the long-term recovery plan for the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. His report, "America's Gulf Coast: A Long-Term Recovery Plan After the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill" was released in September 2010 and was met with broad bi-partisan support. Before his appointment, Mabus served as the Governor of Mississippi and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Secretary Mabus received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Mississippi, a Master's Degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a Law Degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

Michael Mills brings more than 15 years of corporate, public policy and non-profit experience to his role as Executive Director of the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance. Along with day-to-day management responsibilities for the organization, Mills also provides its vision, works to grow brand visibility, extend thought leadership on energy efficiency and raise money. Mills owned PR1776, a reputation management firm prior to joining the Alliance and was a 2010 candidate for Georgia Secretary of State. In addition, career highlights include: serving as the southeast regional director of public affairs for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; working in politics as an aide to former Georgia Secretary of State Lewis Massey and Lt. Governor Mark Taylor; serving as a chief strategist at public affairs agencies around environmental and health care issues; and founding the non-profit Vote for America-Georgia.

 

 

Bruce  Oreck

Bruce Oreck is founding partner of the law firm Oreck, Crighton, Adams and Chase. Although originally trained as a specialist in Federal taxation, for over fifteen years Bruce's practice focused exclusively on matters of state and local tax planning and litigation. In addition, Bruce serves a management role for the family owned Oreck Corporation, which manufactures the appropriately popular 8 pound Oreck vacuum endorsed by every member of the Firm. He is very active in environmental issues, having founded The Zero Carbon Initiative, which "seeks to implement better residential building practices and to teach both trades-persons and homeowners what is possible in energy efficiency as well as alternative and renewable energy applications." Bruce obtained his Bachelor of Arts from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1975. He then earned his law degree from Louisiana State University, graduating with the highest academic honors in 1978. Bruce attended New York University Law School, where he obtained his Master's degree in tax law, also graduating with honors.

Carlos Pascual

Ambassador Carlos Pascual is the U.S. State Department' Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs. In this capacity, he advises Secretary Clinton on energy issues, ensuring that energy security is advanced at all levels of U.S. foreign policy. Previously, Ambassador Pascual has served as U.S. Ambassador in Mexico and Ukraine. From 2006-2009, he was Vice President and Director of the Foreign Policy Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. He has also served as Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization at the Department of State, where he led and organized U.S. government planning to help stabilize and reconstruct societies in transition from conflict or civil strife. During his extensive career in public service, Ambassador Pascual has also held positions in the National Security Council and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Ambassador Pascual received his M.P.P. from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and his B.A. from Stanford University.

Ann Quon has over 20 years of experience in international journalism, public relations and development communications, and is currently the Principal Director of the Department of External Relations at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). As head of external relations, Ms. Quon is responsible for guiding and coordinating the corporate communications, media relations, publishing, information disclosure, and web strategies of the Manila-based multilateral bank. Prior to joining ADB, she worked as a news and business anchor on CNN This Morning, Asia Tonight, and BizAsia for CNN Asia and co-hosted a weekly public affairs program in Hong Kong, China. An award-winning journalist, Ms. Quon has served in a number of senior editorial positions with Asian-based news organizations including the South China Morning Post. She is a former director at Ogilvy & Mather Public Relations Worldwide, where she provided strategic advice on public policy, media affairs and training to a diverse clientele, ranging from multinationals to government agencies.

Andreas Schierenbeck is the current President of Siemens Building Technologies (BT) Division. Schierenbeck brings to his post nearly 20 years of progressive experience guiding companies to profitability and market success having held executive and leadership positions at major global BT business units and other Siemens companies. Most recently he served as global CEO for the Building Automation business unit in Zug, Switzerland. Prior to that, he was the Senior Vice President for Fire Services, and was Vice President of the Siemens Power & Distribution Substation Automation business. He also served as Vice President of the European association of building automation and controls suppliers. A graduate of Harvard Business School's Executive MBA Program in 2009, he is a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and has lived and worked in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Colombia.

 

Gregory Sebasky

Greg Sebasky is responsible for the corporate oversight for all of Philips businesses and its 26,000 employees in North America. Sebasky is a member of Philips Sustainability Board, under which the company is ahead of schedule on sustainability goals, having already increased sale of green products by more than 38 percent, reduced our carbon footprint by more than seven percent and increased energy efficiency by six percent. Sebasky serves in Board Level roles at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and Massachusetts High Technology Council, and is a member of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts and the Harvard Alumni Health Forum. He is also active in charitable organizations, including Chairman of the Town of Andover, MA Green Advisory Board. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's of business administration degree, and holds a master's of business administration degree from the Harvard Business School.

 

Kandeh Yumkella

Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella was appointed as Director-General of UNIDO in December 2005, and in December 2009 he was reconfirmed for a second term in office. As a leader in international development cooperation for over 20 years, he has actively promoted important initiatives and international partnerships for the cause of sustainable development. He is a strong believer that the most effective way to fight poverty is to strengthen the productive capacities of countries and people, enhance their adaptive capabilities to use modern technology, and to commercialize new knowledge.

Dr. Yumkella is a prominent public speaker, who addresses global issues, including poverty reduction, climate change, the Millennium Development Goals, as well those related to Africa and the developing world, green industry and renewable energy. He serves as Chairman of UN-Energy since 2007, the coordination body of United Nations agencies dealing with energy-related issues, and also chaired the UN Secretary-General's Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change (AGECC), 2008-2010. He was appointed by the UNSG in September 2011 as Co-Chair of the new High-level Group on Sustainable Energy for All. Dr. Yumkella holds a PhD. from the University of Illinois.
